The Call of the Wild, or How to Raise a Wolf

There are some animals that are more special. Whenever they walk into the clinic they draw every eye – some filled with admiration, others with surprise, and there is no shortage of fearful ones either.

We are talking about an animal on the border between the wild and the home – the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog.

What does it mean to keep a wolf? The answer comes from Dr Mihaylova, founder of the JulyVet clinics, who has lived with Rego for a little over 6 years.

What I discovered right at the start, and what sets them quite apart from other dogs, is their initial lack of dependence on the people around them and their great independence.

Characteristic of the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog are its intelligence, courage and loyalty. They are wholly devoted to their "pack" and will guard the family unreservedly.

HISTORY: The Czechoslovakian Wolfdog is a relatively new dog breed, created and initially bred for military purposes. In 1955 a biological experiment was carried out in Czechoslovakia to obtain a litter from a German Shepherd and a Carpathian wolf.
