Vaccines Up Close, Part Two – Cats
As promised, here is part two on the subject of vaccines, namely – what we protect cats from by vaccinating them.
R /FRV/ – Feline rhinotracheitis. This is a herpes virus that affects cats of all ages.
C /FCV/ – Calicivirus. This is a pathogen that causes respiratory problems and mouth ulcers.
P /FPV/ – Panleukopenia, or so-called feline distemper. Mortality from panleukopenia is a little over 90%.
Ch – Feline chlamydia. This is a bacterial disease.
FeLV – The feline leukaemia virus kills over 85% of animals within 3 years of diagnosis.
